The UK is gradually increasing battery storage, but the government is encouraging consumers to use more electricity at certain times of the day to shift reliance from fossil fuels to greener alternatives.

Consumers requested by the government High-power appliances like dishwashers and washing machines, as well as electric vehicle (EV) chargers, are being asked to be used during peak renewable energy production times this summer, when more solar and wind power is added to the grid. Energy suppliers will support the government’s efforts by providing free or discounted electricity during certain times when there is surplus electricity. The scheme will also be extended to businesses and manufacturers.

The scheme expands on a number of initiatives already in place by energy providers. Over 2 million households You can pay cheaper electricity bills during off-peak hours, reducing the strain on the power grid. But this is the first time a plan to manage the surplus of clean electricity has been rolled out.

The National Energy System Operator (Neso) hopes the measure will encourage consumers to change their energy usage and avoid having to shut down wind and solar power generation when electricity demand is low, which can be very costly. The initiative is expected to be very attractive to consumers who are struggling with soaring bills due to soaring energy prices due to the US-Israel war against Iran.

Britain’s summer season is expected to help the country reach a new record for clean energy production, with the potential to power the entire grid with net-zero carbon electricity. England in spring Set a record for doubling solar power generation. Solar farms in England, Wales and Scotland generated 14.1 GW of low-carbon electricity over six days.th In April, the figure exceeded the previous record of 14GW set in July last year. This record was quickly broken just one day later when solar generation increased to 14.4 GW.

The UK also hit record wind power production earlier this month, resulting in gas-fired power generation falling to a two-year low. The country also plans to import electricity produced using nuclear and renewable energy from continental Europe, thereby further reducing its dependence on fossil fuels.

This means fossil fuel prices will rise higher than ever before, global volatility will increase, and both the International Energy Agency and China will Urging governments to diversify their energy mix At an accelerated pace.

However, if too much renewable energy is sent to the grid, grid bottlenecks can overload the grid and increase the risk of unexpected power outages. Over the next few years, the UK expects to reduce the number of bottlenecks in the system, enable new renewable energy capacity to connect to the grid, and expand the UK’s electricity transmission reach to more rural areas as electricity demand increases.

In addition to more renewable energy flowing into the UK’s electricity grid from commercial projects, record numbers of households are installing domestic renewable energy installations to combat rising energy bills. Consumer interest in solar panels, electric vehicles and heat pumps has increased sharply since the US-Israel war against Iran began in February, pushing up global energy prices, according to data from the country’s leading energy supplier.

Energy bills are expected to increase by 18% from July as the next energy price cap comes into effect. This corresponds to approximately Typical annual dual fuel charge is £1,929due to soaring gasoline prices.

Octopus Energy, the UK’s largest energy supplier, reported that orders for heat pumps more than doubled in March compared to February, sales of solar power systems increased by around 80% and new EV leases increased by more than 85%. British Gas, the UK’s second largest supplier, has also recorded a 250 per cent increase in inquiries for solar panel installations since February 28.

“British families are tired of being held hostage to global fossil fuel prices,” said Octopus chief product officer Rebecca Dibb-Simkin. explained. “We are seeing a huge shift as people take matters into their own hands and switch to solar power, heat pumps and EVs to keep running costs low and protect themselves from future price shocks.”

The UK continues to accelerate the introduction of new renewable energy sources and is fast becoming a powerhouse of green energy generation, helping to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. The country is investing in improving its electricity grid and building more battery storage, while the government is encouraging consumers to change their energy habits to take advantage of the summer peak in green energy production and reduce Britain’s dependence on gas.

Written by Felicity Bradstock, Oilprice.com

More top articles on Oilprice.com

#renewable #energy #glut #Oil #Price.com

The UK has rapidly expanded its deployment of new renewable energy in recent years and is now at a point where it has some headroom during peak production times.
