A love of coffee is brewing in one southern city, and it’s also gaining national recognition for its exceptional cup of joe.<\/p>\n
This ranking by Food & Wine’s Global Tastemakers Awards is based on input from more than 400 chefs, travel experts and food writers, with final recommendations ranked by an advisory board. <\/p>\n
The result was a big upset for other coffee fans. Seattle is the birthplace of Starbucks and helped define modern coffee culture, while New York’s 24-hour lifestyle has long made it one of the most caffeinated cities in the world. <\/p>\n
Lillian Brown, a consumer expert and Austin resident, attributes the growth of Austin’s coffee scene to a variety of reasons, including a “very active and sociable” culture and the city’s steadily growing population.<\/p>\n
“Population growth has brought people from all over the world, especially from cities with great culinary scenes,” Brown told the Daily Mail. \u201cThese people are landing in Austin and starting to level up the whole Austin culinary scene.\u201d <\/p>\n
As the population skews younger, Austin residents are looking for “affordable luxury,” which means investing in small treats like an $8 latte “to lift your mood without breaking the bank.”<\/p>\n
There is a reason why the city that never sleeps. New York is also a major player in the coffee scene, coming in a close second for its wide variety of coffees. <\/p>\n
Park at Kim’s near Little Italy specializes in Korean drinks, including the $8 “Hand Brew,” which is hand-poured hot water over ground coffee. East Village’s Book Club Bar is a cozy cafe and bar in a converted bookstore, serving book-inspired cocktails and lattes. Who wouldn’t want “The Orient Espresso Martini Murders”?<\/p>\n
