NASA announced Monday that it will work with other federal agencies to investigate the deaths and disappearances of 11 nuclear and space scientists, raising concerns in Washington that they may have been targeted for their work.
“NASA is coordinating and working with relevant agencies regarding the missing scientist,” NASA spokeswoman Bethany Stevens wrote in a statement regarding X. “At this time, nothing associated with NASA suggests a national security threat. NASA is committed to transparency and will provide further information as it becomes available.”
Hours earlier, the White House press secretary was asked about the incident by Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy.
“Given the recent legitimate questions surrounding these troubling cases and President Trump’s commitment to the truth, the White House is actively working with all relevant agencies and the FBI to comprehensively investigate all cases and identify potential patterns,” Caroline Leavitt later wrote on social media.

At least 11 people have died or gone missing since 2022. The majority were involved in nuclear science and space research, with some involved in the study of unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAPs).
Michael David Hicks, 59 years old. Frank Maiwald, 61 years old. Nuno Loureiro, 47 years old. Jason Thomas, 45 years old. Amy Eskridge, 34 years old. and Carl Grillmare, 47, all died between 2023 and 2026. Each played a key role in important scientific research, Fox News Digital previously reported.
The causes of Hicks and Maiwald’s deaths remain unknown. Freddie Snyder, 29, was charged with murder after Grillmare was shot in front of her home on February 16th. Loreiro was also shot and killed at his home in Massachusetts.

The body of Jason Thomas, associate director of chemical biology at Novartis, was discovered in Lake Quanapowitt, Massachusetts, three months after he was last seen walking from his home late at night. Eskridge, a researcher based in Huntsville, Alabama, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on June 11, 2022.
Monica Reza, 60 years old. Melissa Cassius, 53 years old. Anthony Chavez, 79 years old. Steven Garcia, 48 years old. Retired Air Force Maj. Gen. William Neil McCasland, 68, were all reported missing from 2023 to 2026. All disappearances occurred under suspicious circumstances.
On Sunday, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) warned that “something sinister” may be involved.
“We’ve notified the Department of the Army, the FBI, NASA, the Department of Energy. We want to know everything they know about what happened to these scientists, because those are the four agencies that these 11 individuals were primarily affiliated with,” he said during an appearance on “Fox & Friends Weekend.” “We want to try to piece this together.”

Comer said he plans to invite leaders from NASA, the FBI and other federal agencies to Congress. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump vowed to investigate the incident.
“I hope it’s random, but we’ll find out within the next week and a half,” President Trump told reporters last week. “I just left a meeting on the subject.”
